Welcome to the forge.

This is the first post on my blog—a place where I’ll be documenting builds, breaking things, fixing them, and occasionally questioning my life choices somewhere between Nginx configs and compiler design.

Who Am I?

I’m Walt, a backend developer based in central Arkansas.

My interest in tech started with a curiosity about how things actually work under the hood—what happens between a request and a response, how systems scale, and why things break the way they do.

These days, I spend a lot of time building and refining server-side systems, always trying to balance performance, simplicity, and reliability.

Why “The Forge”?

The idea is simple:

Writing software feels a lot like blacksmithing.

You start with something rough, apply pressure in the right places, refine it over time, and eventually (hopefully) end up with something strong and useful.

Also… if I’m being honest, it was the best domain name I could come up with.

This blog will mostly cover:

Backend development
Systems design
Debugging weird infrastructure issues (like the one that led to this post)
Compiler experiments and language design ideas
Whatever else I’m currently obsessed with

Outside of Code

When I’m not at the keyboard, I’m usually:

Working on my car (without a hammer, usually)
Playing games
Cooking something that may or may not turn out well

What’s Next?

Honestly—whatever breaks next.

If today taught me anything, it’s that even something as “simple” as serving a blog can turn into a multi-layer debugging session involving proxies, SSL modes, and enough redirects to question reality.

So yeah… there will be plenty to write about.
